Falling short at loving well.
God tells us to “love your neighbor as yourself”. It is much easier for us to love in the realm of society instead of the fullness of God. Let me explain: Societies love is constantly self-seeking, conditional, as well as withholding. It is often linked around getting our own wants, needs, and desires met with little regard to the emotional wellbeing of others. It also comes in the form of allowing others to control and/or manipulate as well as being the controller and/or manipulator. It can cause confusion within boundaries and accountability. All of this is an act of self preservation causing our hearts to be guarded, thus protecting our own idea of happiness and self-worth. We live this way not because we want, but because our hearts have been impaired into believing this is the way to love. This causes us to miss the mark on the true meaning of God’s love.
